UNDERSTANDING REVELATION

Revelation is written by the Apostle John in the "apocalyptic" style. The base meaning is "disclosure" or "unveiling." Several of the Old Testament books contain the apocalyptic style.

John used the apocalyptic style with an eye on the Torah. John was a Jew and a Christian fillled with the Holy Spirit. John's message confirms God's message from the Old Testament.

Hebrew literature many times uses numbers to show relationships. Hebrew literature also uses some specific numbers as "favorable" numbers. The number "7" found many times in Revelation indicates completeness or perfection, or both.

Scholars disagree on when John wrote Revelation. And, hey! Scholars even disagree on which John actually wrote Revelation. Regardless, Revelation is a great summary of God's messaage for you!
